Q. How do solar panels produce electricity?
Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells that absorb sunlight and produce electrical charges. An inverter changes the direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC), which can be used to power your home.
Q. Can I come off the grid with solar panels?
As solar panels can only create energy during the day, there will be periods when you need energy from elsewhere. This can either be from another energy source, a battery system or from the grid.
Q. Are solar panels suitable for my home?
Not every house is suitable for Solar but at Sol-TeQ our designers and experts will endeavour to find a suitable solution, we will also be honest if Solar isn’t the best solution for you. Solar technology means that even small panels can be fitted to your roof or even on land, and they don’t need brilliant sunshine every day to produce energy.
Q. How are solar panels installed?
Usually, a team will put up scaffolding then install the panels within a day using a simple but effective mounting system that won’t damage your roof or building. The inverter and, if needed, the battery storage are then installed, and the internal wiring completed with minimal disruption.
Q. How long do solar panels last?
The latest designs are made of durable materials that can withstand even the most severe of weather conditions, and with no moving parts, panels can last for at least 25 years without needing replacement. The inverter will last for around ten years, and warranties can be purchased for both.
We only install quality equipment that has a minimum of a ten year product warranty and a 25 year production warranty as standard.
Inverters typically have a 5 year warranty which can be extended in 5 year increments for a fee.
Q. What maintenance do solar panels need?
We advise having a professional take a look at your solar panels and system every couple of years to ensure they are performing to their full potential. They will also be able to tell you about any suitable upgrades or accessories that might be of benefit.
